Grid trading on Aster

Verified against Aster's official docs on 2026-09-29. This page describes the tool; it does not suggest settings, and past ranges say nothing about future ones.

A grid places buy orders below the price and sell orders above it at fixed intervals, so it trades each swing inside a range. Aster offers neutral, long and short grids on its perps, with parameters you set yourself or generate automatically. It lives under More → Grid Trade in the menu.

What happens once you start one

  1. Optional trigger. The grid can start at once, or when the last or mark price crosses a trigger you set.
  2. Initial orders. Sells above the market, buys below, "the number of grids + 1" orders in total. A neutral grid starts with no position and opens one when the price trades past the nearest level.
  3. Running. As orders fill, the grid re-posts the other side at the neighbouring level.
  4. Optional stop. Upper and lower stop prices end the grid when the market leaves your range.
  5. Clean-up. On stop, you choose whether its orders and positions are cancelled and closed automatically or by hand.

Why a grid will not start

What ends a running grid

A manual stop, cancelling any of its orders, closing any of its positions, or "insufficient margin causes positions to be liquidated or prevents orders from being placed." The last one matters most. A grid in a trending market accumulates a position on the losing side, and a grid that runs out of margin ends by liquidation, not by a clean stop.

How the auto parameters are picked

Auto mode sets the range from Bollinger Bands (moving average ± a multiple of the standard deviation) and the number of grids as the range divided by the average true range over a recent window. It "will not work if there is insufficient trading history" for the asset. Aster's own warning applies to both modes: "If your grid settings are unreasonable, you may not capture grid revenue when the market moves in one direction outside your set range."

FAQ

Do grid fills pay normal fees?

The grid pages do not state a separate grid fee. The grid places limit orders on the Perps order book; the Perps schedule is on Aster fees.

Is a grid a way to earn without directional risk?

No. A neutral grid holds whatever position the swings leave it with, and that position carries full market risk.
