Sub-accounts on Aster

Verified against Aster's official docs on 2026-09-29.

A sub-account has its "own positions, assets, and API keys", so a loss in one strategy cannot eat another's margin. Sub-accounts are for wallet-connected accounts only; email-login accounts cannot use them, and a sub-account cannot have sub-accounts of its own.

The private key is shown once

Creating a sub-account generates a new wallet address and private key, EVM or Solana to match your master account. The docs are explicit: "This key is shown only once and is never stored by Aster." If you lose it, you cannot log in to that sub-account directly. Deleting sub-accounts "is not supported in the current version", so a lost key leaves an account you cannot remove.

Moving money

API keys and freezing

Each sub-account can hold 10 API keys (the master 30), V3 API only, and "withdrawal permission is permanently disabled on all sub-account keys". A key handed to a trading bot can therefore trade, and a leaked one can still lose money by trading, but it cannot send funds out.

Freezing a sub-account blocks new positions but leaves existing ones open: they "will not be forced closed." In one-way mode only reduce-only orders go through; in hedge mode, only closes.

Fees, VIP and referrals

VIP level is computed on the master and all sub-accounts together, and the whole group shares one tier. Referral rebates are calculated per account, master and sub-accounts "cannot refer to each other", and trades between them are "counted as self-trading".

FAQ

Can I log in to a sub-account directly?

Yes, with its wallet address and private key, but from there you cannot switch accounts or make transfers.

What if I lose the sub-account key?

"It cannot be recovered." Save it before closing the creation dialog.
