edgeX V1 contract frozen — trading had moved to V2 — 2026-08-14. edgeX's original V1 deployment — a StarkEx Validium on Ethereum, whose critical contracts L2BEAT rates as upgradeable by a single externally-owned account, with no window for users to exit before an unwanted upgrade, and which has an address with unverified source code — froze on 2026-08-14, per L2BEAT, after a forced withdrawal on Ethereum went unprocessed for seven days. L2BEAT describes it as a planned sunset: trading had already moved to edgeX V2 on EDGE Chain in May 2026. L2BEAT's change log records that contract's isFrozen value flipping from false to true, and an on-chain read of the V1 StarkPerpetual contract (0xfAaE…7d83DD) still returned true on 2026-10-07. L2BEAT's edgeX page tracks that V1 deployment, so its risk ratings describe the frozen system rather than V2. edgeX's live V2 market API (edgex-prod-v2.edgex.exchange) listed 183 contracts, all open for trading, on 2026-10-07; this is a standing disclosure for anyone with history on V1, not an outage of the live venue. How to Start Trading on edgeX (2026): Step by Step

How-to · 4 min read · Updated 2026-10-07

Mechanics verified against official edgeX docs on 2026-09-09; collateral, deposit and withdrawal limits against the live app's public V2 metadata on 2026-09-28.

Perpetual futures are leveraged instruments: your entire margin can be lost quickly, and funding accrues while a position is open. Read the risk disclosure before you fund an account. edgeX's current Terms of Use bar residents of the United States and of Ontario, Canada, and an older Terms page in its docs bars all of Canada; this guide is written for readers outside those jurisdictions and does not cover workarounds. You will need:

Connect: wallet or email

The docs describe two paths. With a wallet, connect it on the app. With email, "click the 'Connect' button and enter your email address"; a six-digit code arrives, and after you enter it "a new blockchain address is automatically created for your email address". The MPC route is convenient but narrower: per the withdrawals page, MPC accounts can withdraw only via Arbitrum.

Deposit USDC

The app runs on edgeX V2. Its public metadata sets USDC as the collateral coin and lists deposits on Edge, Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism and Polygon, each with a 10 USDC minimum, moving over Circle's CCTP from the five external chains. edgeX charges no deposit fee; you pay the chain's gas. The deposit docs describe a USDT flow instead, matching the legacy V1 system — frozen since 2026-08-14 per L2BEAT (checked 2026-10-07) — whose API still lists USDT as its token on Ethereum, Arbitrum and BNB Chain — "USDT: serves as collateral for trading", a 10 USDT minimum "to support the margin for opening a position", about 15 confirmations on Ethereum — and mention neither USDC nor V2. Use the asset and chain the app's deposit window shows.

Understand margin before the first order

edgeX runs cross margin by default: collateral is shared across every position in a trading account. If you want isolated exposure, the docs' answer is a separate account — "up to 20 trading accounts with independent margins per single wallet" — and their volume still counts toward one shared fee tier. The fee tier itself is shown inside the app; the docs do not publish the rates (see the fees page).

Place a first order

Three order types are documented: limit, market and conditional. Limit orders carry fill-or-kill, good-till-time (a default maximum of four weeks), immediate-or-cancel, post-only and reduce-only options. Take-profit and stop-loss orders execute as market orders and trigger off the last traded price. Liquidation uses an oracle price from Stork, not the last trade, so watch the oracle mark rather than the tape when sizing. If you trade a stock or forex perp, read the session rules first: while the underlying market is closed, stock perps reject market orders and forex perps drop to reduced liquidity tiers.

Withdraw

The live V2 metadata lists USDC withdrawals on the same six chains, with a 2 USDC minimum, a withdrawMinFee of 1 USDC and a withdrawFeeRate of 0. The withdrawals docs describe the routes of V1, frozen since 2026-08-14 per L2BEAT (checked 2026-10-07), instead: wallet users "can select the chain for withdrawal from Ethereum, BNB Chain, or Arbitrum", MPC accounts only Arbitrum, Ethereum withdrawals "could take up to 14 hours", and non-Ethereum withdrawals carry "a cross-chain withdrawal fee of 0.1% ... with a minimum fee of 1 USD". Read the fee in the withdrawal window before you confirm, and plan the timing before you need the funds elsewhere.

FAQ

Do I need KYC?

The docs and Terms of Use read on the verification date contain no KYC statement either way; onboarding is described as a wallet connection or an email code. What the terms do state is the jurisdiction bar: the United States and Ontario, Canada in the current Terms, all of Canada in the older version still in the docs.

Can I deposit USDC?

Yes — on the live app it is the only option. edgeX V2's public metadata names USDC as the collateral coin and the only deposit token, on six chains. The documentation's deposit page still describes USDT, the collateral of the legacy V1 system, frozen since 2026-08-14 per L2BEAT (checked 2026-10-07).

Why can email accounts only withdraw via Arbitrum?

The docs state the restriction without a reason. Practically, an MPC account's address is created on Arbitrum at sign-up, and its withdrawal path stays on that chain.
