Hyperliquid vs Veranta (2026): Order Book vs Vault
Facts verified against each venue's official docs on 2026-09-29. Any comparison of volume or liquidity reflects a point-in-time reading that moves constantly — treat it as a reading, not a fixed ranking.
These two venues are built differently. Hyperliquid matches buyers and sellers on an order book on its own L1. Veranta, formerly Avantis, has no book: "the avUSDC vault takes the other side" of every trade, which fills at "the oracle price plus a spread" that grows with size. Our Veranta review covers that model in full.
Note on jurisdiction: both venues block US persons. Veranta's Terms also exclude sanctioned persons and countries, naming Russia, Crimea, Cuba, Iran, North Korea and Syria. Check each venue's own terms before signing up.
Verdict
A book you trade with other traders, or a vault you trade against. For crypto, the taker rate is the same 0.045%, and Hyperliquid adds cross margin and a book whose depth you can see. Veranta's case is outside crypto: forex, metals and index perps with no commission in growth mode and leverage up to 500x on FX majors. In exchange you accept USDC-only isolated positions, a profit cap, a vault as counterparty and a Terms clause that allows profit clawbacks. Pick Veranta for real-world-asset perps; pick Hyperliquid for crypto on a transparent book.

Fees
Hyperliquid runs 0.045% taker / 0.015% maker at the base tier, reduced by volume tiers and HYPE staking — see our full breakdown. Veranta charges crypto majors 0.045% as a taker and 0.001% as a maker on both open and close, where maker means joining the lighter side of open interest, not resting a limit order. Its real-world assets pay no commission in growth mode, and Upside Perps replace the commission with a 5% to 25% share of winning trades. The Veranta fees page has each rule.
Where Veranta wins
- Forex, metals, oil, indices and equities in the same USDC account, commission-free for now.
- Fills at the oracle price plus a size-scaled spread, with no book to walk through.
- Upside Perps: no fee on a losing trade.
- Gasless trading, including for social-login accounts.
Where Hyperliquid wins
- Cross margin and no cap on a single position's profit.
- Other traders on the far side, not the venue's own vault.
- Consistent docs: Veranta's pages disagree on Upside leverage and the LP fee share.
Which to pick
If you want forex, metals or index perps with high leverage and no commission, and you accept a vault counterparty with a profit cap, Veranta fits. If you trade crypto and want a visible book, cross margin and uncapped positions, Hyperliquid is the default — read our full Hyperliquid review, and weigh both against the field in our perp DEX rankings.

FAQ
Is Veranta an order-book DEX?
No. It is vault-backed: the avUSDC vault is the counterparty, and prices come from oracles plus a spread. Maker and taker describe your effect on open-interest balance.
Which is cheaper?
For a crypto taker, the headline rate is the same 0.045%, but Veranta also charges a spread and a borrow fee while you hold. For forex and metals, Veranta's zero commission is lower while growth mode lasts. The fee comparison lists both schedules with their verification dates.
Do I need KYC on either?
Neither venue's onboarding asks for identity documents. Both exclude US persons in their terms.
