Connecting a Wallet to Hyperliquid: Every Option

How-to · 4 min read · Updated 2026-09-15

Steps verified against Hyperliquid's official docs on 2026-09-15. Wallet choice is not reviewed here; our sister site's wallet rankings cover that.

"You can trade on Hyperliquid with a normal defi wallet or by logging in with your email address." Those are the two doors. Everything else — mobile, hardware wallets, third-party apps — is a variation on one of them. The docs also list third-party front-ends (Based, Dexari, MetaMask and Phantom apps) alongside app.hyperliquid.xyz; this page follows the official app.

Option A: connect an EVM wallet

You need "an EVM wallet" — the docs name Rabby, MetaMask, WalletConnect and Coinbase Wallet — and collateral. Click "Connect", choose the wallet, approve the connection pop-up, then "click the 'Enable Trading' button. A pop-up will appear in your wallet extension asking you to sign a gas-less transaction. Press 'Sign.'" That signature is what turns a connected address into a trading account; there is no registration form and no fee. Keep the seed phrase offline: "anyone with access to your private key or seed phrase can access your funds".

Option B: log in with email

"Click the 'Connect' button and enter your email address. After you press 'Submit,' within a few seconds, a 6 digit code will be sent to your email." The email login creates a wallet for you (the docs refer to it as your email wallet, managed through Privy) and it "is still your address on Hyperliquid". Deposits for email accounts accept USDC on Arbitrum, Ethereum, Base and Polygon via a deposit address, plus the Unit-managed assets on other networks — see the deposit troubleshooting page for the minimums.

Link your phone to a desktop wallet

The docs' QR flow: connect via the wallet extension on desktop; on the phone press "Connect" and choose "Link Desktop Wallet", which asks for the camera; on the desktop click "the PC+mobile icon in the top right of the navigation bar and sign the pop-up"; scan the QR code that appears.

Export the email wallet if you need the keys

"If you accidentally send an unsupported asset to your defi wallet", or you want to stop using email login: log in with the same email, click "Export Email Wallet" in the settings dropdown, copy the private key from the pop-up, and import it into a wallet extension. The support FAQ suggests the same export for anyone who stops receiving login codes.

When the connection fails

For a "recursive 'Establish Connection' loop, failed transaction signing, or your wallet extension not loading", the docs' quick fixes are: update and enable the extension; hard-refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R) and clear cache; disconnect and reconnect; switch networks away and back to Arbitrum (for USDC deposits) or the HyperEVM. Wallet-specific notes from the same page: Coinbase Wallet "users on mobile may face connection problems. Try using the Coinbase Chrome extension instead"; MetaMask has issues on the HyperEVM, with Rabby suggested; the docs' remedy for a Trezor "forbidden keypath" error is changing Trezor Suite's safety checks from "Strict" to "Prompt"; a Ledger "Transfer Failed" error on the HyperEVM wants a firmware update. Switching extensions is safe: "your trades, history, and address remain the same even if you use a new wallet extension".

For email login, "if you flagged Privy messages as spam in the past, that would lead to your address being removed from their whitelist"; the docs say to contact Privy support to re-enable codes, then export the wallet so you no longer depend on email.

FAQ

Is there KYC at connection?

No identity step appears in the onboarding docs — a wallet signature or an email code. What no-KYC does and does not mean is on the KYC page.

Does connecting cost gas?

No. "Enable Trading" is "a gas-less transaction", and "trading on Hyperliquid is gas-free". Gas is only paid on the source chain when depositing.

Can I use a Solana wallet?

Phantom appears in the docs' list of apps and in the deposit flows for Solana-network assets, and the support FAQ covers withdrawing to Phantom, which "does not support Arbitrum" — see the withdrawal page for that case.
