Order types on Aster Perps
Verified against Aster's official docs on 2026-09-29. The trading screen itself is on the Aster trading screen.
The basic orders
| Order | What it does |
|---|---|
| Market | Fills now at the best price; optional slippage tolerance turns it into an immediate-or-cancel limit order (below). |
| Limit | Rests on the book and fills only at your price. |
| Stop limit | At the stop price, places a limit order; "if the market falls too fast", it "may remain unfilled". |
| Stop market | At the stop price, becomes a market order; the fill "may differ from the stop price". |
| Trailing stop | The stop follows the best price by a callback percentage and never moves back; on a reversal of that size it sends a market order. |
| Post only | Rejected if it would fill immediately, so it only ever makes. |
| BBO | A limit at the best bid or ask (or a queue position such as fifth best). |
Time-in-force is GTC (until filled or cancelled), IOC (fill what you can now, cancel the rest) or FOK (all now or nothing). Reduce-only makes an order unable to open or grow a position.
Stops: choose mark or last price
TP and SL can trigger on either price. The docs spell out the trade-off: the mark price is "the fair price used for liquidation checks" and "tends to be more stable during volatility"; the last price "reacts more quickly but can be triggered by wicks or sudden spikes." A stop-market fills at whatever the book offers; a stop-limit can miss entirely.
Capping a market order's slippage
Turn on slippage tolerance and Aster converts the market order into an immediate-or-cancel limit: best ask + amount (or × (1 + %)) for a buy, best bid − amount (or × (1 − %)) for a sell. Anything that cannot fill inside that price "will be cancelled automatically", so a capped order can fill only partly. The percentage must be at least 0.1%, and no more than the market-order price cap.
Algorithmic orders
- TWAP. Spreads a size over 1 minute to 7 days. If any slice fails a margin check "the entire TWAP strategy will be terminated"; reduce-only slices are exempt. Up to 30 strategies per account; fills are "best-effort" and not guaranteed.
- Scaled order. Up to 110 limit orders across a price range, sized equally, increasing, decreasing or randomly (variance up to 10%). Each rests as its own limit order, so margin must cover the full size.
- Chase order. A limit that re-prices every second to the best bid or ask, or a fixed gap behind it, and cancels itself past a maximum chase distance you set. "All chase orders are placed as post-only", so fills are maker fills at Aster's 0% maker fee. Up to 5 per trading pair; they cannot be edited, only cancelled and replaced. Aster describes itself as the first DEX with native chase orders.
FAQ
Why did my trailing stop fill below its stop price?
Because it triggers a market order. The callback sets when it fires, not where it fills.
Can I run a grid and a TWAP on the same symbol?
A grid needs the symbol free of other orders and positions; see grid trading.
